Following her incredible success at the Sevilla Biennal where she won the Biennal Prize, Mercedes Ruiz is known throughout Andalusia.
She started her career as a soloist and first performed at the Festival of Jerez. ‘Dibujo en el Aire’ was praised both by the audience and the critique. Mercedes then performed at the Festival of Nou Barris in Barcelona – where she has been compared to Carmen Amaya – then also performed at the Cultural Centre ‘El Monte’ in Sevilla.
In 2004, she introduced us to her second creation, ‘Gestos de Mujer’, at the Dance Biennal in Lyon, France, and performed several gigs like ‘Suresnes’ at the Jean Vilar theatre, or at the Flamenco Festival in Nîmes, in Madrid (Centro Cultural de la Villa)…
In 2005, she participated in the Music Festival of Nouakchott in Mauritania and in the Festival of Bratislava, Slovakia.
She toured Southern America with dancer Antonio Canales who invited her in 2006 as a soloist in his show ‘Bailaor’.
During 2006, she performed in the most prestigious venues in Europe such as the ‘Théâtre de la Ville’ in Paris, and festivals like ‘Mira!’ or ‘Montpellier Danse’.
Besides her international tours, she created a new show entitled ‘Juncá’ that she presented at the Sevilla biennal in September of the same year, and in 2007 at the festival of Jerez-where she was awarded the Critique Prize for that show.
« Mi ultimo Secreto », her latest show, was presented in 2009 and won the Great prize of Audience and Critique.
Ever since, Mercedes Ruiz has kept touring and dancing around the world.
